If using incense and a bit of carbon from smoke gets on the altar, wipe clean with a bit of alcohol. Incense burning isn’t ideal while hanging on the wall due to possible carbon streaks on the wall.
Four sturdy nails or screws are recommended for mounting to a wall: two for the rectangular upper cavity and one in each of the two circular holes. Ideally the altar should be hung away from high traffic areas where it may be accidentally bumped into.
