Mantis in Celestial Molasses. #2. 15 ounces.
This praying mantis mug was wheel thrown using porcelain clay and decorated with a mantis that I sculpted.
The upper exterior is glazed with Molasses Borealis, a glaze that I developed after completing several glaze chemistry courses with Ceramic Materials Workshop. Many weeks of testing went into making this glaze and I couldn't be more pleased with the results. Note that this glaze is difficult to photograph. Full sunlight in person reveals the complexity of this glaze but I chose to show a variety of light exposure so that you can see how it looks in lighter vs darker conditions.
The interior and lower exterior are glazed in a satin white.
High fired to cone ten. Made with food safe glazes formulated in my studio and designed for regular use. Gentle hand washing is recommended, although dishwasher use is fine.
