Lithified Canyon Mug with Blooming Cacti 1. 14 ounces.
This mug was made to resemble desert rocks, mimicking the structure and surface of a canyon wall, capturing its solidity and fragility. It feels like a rock but is also smooth in the right spots.
The canyon texture was applied to the exterior of a wheel thrown mug and allowed to begin cracking, guiding where I sculpted and carved the fragmented facade. The cracks do not penetrate the wall of the mug, they are merely decorating the surface. Embellished with blooming cacti that are precariously perched in tiny pockets of soil. Each handle is individually carved to offer a comfortable grip.
Made with porcelain clay and high fired to 2345 degrees fahrenheit (cone ten). The interior is glazed in a satin white. The exterior is punctuated with vibrant turquoise and green glazes.
Hand washing is recommended, although occasional dishwasher cleaning is fine.
