This tumbler was made to resemble desert rocks, mimicking the structure and surface of a canyon wall, capturing its solidity and fragility. It feels like a rock but has been sanded so that it is also smooth in the right spots.
I sculpted a cracking and fragmented facade with loose rocks, and blooming cacti precariously perched in tiny pockets of soil.
Made with stoneware clay and high fired to 2345 degrees fahrenheit (cone ten). The interior is glazed in a speckled warm grey with a green tone. The exterior is punctuated with a vibrant turquoise glaze.
Hand washing is recommended, although occasional dishwasher cleaning is fine.
