With this piece I was focused primarily on mimicking the structure and surface of a canyon wall. I sculpted a cracking and fragmented facade with loose rocks, punctuated with cacti precariously perched in tiny pockets of soil.
Made with stoneware clay and fired to 2345 degrees fahrenheit (cone ten), the interior is glazed in a weathered dark turquoise. Gold luster (real gold) was applied to the cacti and rim, then fired again to 1300+ degrees.
Gentle hand washing recommended due to the gold luster.
Measures 4.75" in height, 4" in diameter at the base and 3.25" in diameter at the rim.
