Stoneware Canyon with Hoodoos.
For this vessel I am exploring how to convey the character of my local Santa Catalina Mountains, particularly the section of Mt. Lemmon with rock formations called 'hoodoos'. I love how precarious these formations look, as though they are boulders stacked on top of one another.
The exterior is sculpted to mimic a canyon wall, the stone bridge and hoodoo on top of the vessel are intended to resemble precarious geological formations.
I imagine this being used as a small vase, a little basket or a sculpture...but its use is up to you.
High fired to cone ten. Wheel thrown with a stoneware clay. The interior has a dark turquoise glaze, the exterior is washed with a variety of clay slips.
Hand washing recommended but dishwasher cleaning is fine on occasion.
