Lithified Vessels: Porcelain Canyon Vase with Cacti
The Lithified Vessels collection is just beginning to take shape. In this round of work I am exploring and celebrating how we manage to thrive in spite of our uncertain and at times precarious circumstances. The porcelain canyon wall is sculpted to look like it is gradually coming apart, cracking and crumbling...with a sweet little pop of plant life precariously perched within its structure.
This vase measures 5.75" tall, 4.5" in diameter at the base and 3.25" in diameter at the rim.
Although my intent is to make this vase look like it's falling apart, it's actually quite durable. Made with porcelain and fired to 2345 degrees fahrenheit, this clay is fully vitrified (I have personally tested it).
Gentle hand washing is recommended. Made with food safe glazes, so occasional dishwasher cleaning is fine.
